Akebono Tulip Bulbs
Akebono Tulip Bulbs
Tulip bulbs for fall planting are shipping now! To meet wholesale minimums, I ordered more than I need to plant so I'm offering my extras.
Akebono is an early-flowering, double tulip variety that makes an ideal cut flower. Buttery yellow blooms have a delicate red edge and occasional blush on the petals. This is a favorite that I grow nearly every year!
These bulbs are not pre-chilled, so they'll need an extended cold period before blooming. Plant 4-6" deep and keep well-watered. Pull the entire plant out and cut the bulb off for the longest stem, and harvest before the flower is fully open for the longest vase life. Akebono is a Darwin hybrid, so if you leave at least two leaves it could potentially perennialize, but it was designed for one-season use. Last year I did have some luck with flowers coming back, but they weren't quite as large as the first year.
